Looking for a new Webmaster to assist with this website
When I first launched this site I was aged 74, it has been running
for about 6 years and with around 75 visits/day, it continues to
attract new members.
I have just passed my 80th birthday and with a multitude of
medical conditions, I have to think about the continuance of this
So I am asking members for their views and in the process maybe
get some volunteers to become involved. Ideally I would like a
couple of people to join with me to form a 'Team' of three to
manage the site until I let go! Some knowledge of Coding would be

David Pearson: Sadly we have lost another great colleague, David
Pearson, taken far to soon. He definitely had BT running through his
veins, was one of the best managers I had. Only left a few months ago.
His funeral is on 26th May at 2.30pm Hutcliffe Wood if anyone would

Michael James Gradden: To all who knew Michael who started as a
TT(A) at LTR/SW Wimbledon TE August 1976 has sadly passed away following
a battle with Cancer for 2 years. He left PO/BT to join the world of
Cable - Nynex, then Telewest before moving to Orange Mobile. His funeral
will be at Beetham Crematorium Thursday 12th May at 15:30.

Derek Bland: I know many of you on here would have been
colleagues and friends with Derek Bland. I sorry I have bring sad news
that Derek died in the early hours of 12 Feb 22. I knew Derek briefly
through work but more with him being a close neighbour of my in-laws.

Frederick AdermanTothill 1931- 2022
It was with shock and great sadness that we learned that
Fred Tothill died suddenly at home on Monday evening. He was 90 years
old. Born in East London he started his working life as a telegram
messenger with the GPO and retired as a manager with British Telecom. He
was Almoner for his Masonic lodge, traveling all over the country caring
for the bereaved and those in any kind of difficulty. Having been
widowed for 4 years, Fred found love, companionship and happiness again.
He and Beryl were married in St Nicholasí on 30th November 2002. Fred
had been suffering a number of health issues in recent months. Our
heartfelt condolences go to Beryl, his daughter Karen, to his twin
sister Kath and the wider Tothill and Brown families.

Howard Jones: It is with great sadness that I inform you that
Howard Jones passed away.
Howard worked in the field as a jointer in the Bath/Wiltshire area
(working out of Locksbrook) during the seventies and eighties. He later
transferred to the Bath planning office (Brassmill Lane) until his early
retirement in the mid 90s.

Ivan Whitehouse, regret to inform everyone that sadly Ivan died
last Tuesday 18th January. Ivan joined Post Office Telephones in 1963
based Lanesfield TEC Wolverhampton on U/G mtnce, he then moved onto
Dudley TEC as an S/T where he took early release from BT late 90s.
Funeral at St Nicholas Church Codsall Thursday Feb 10th at 1pm then
private family service at Bushbury Crematorium. Will be greatly missed.

Geof Binding: Sorry to record that Geof passed
away in Warwick Hospital about around Christmas Time 2021, His funeral
took place on 19th Jan 22. Geof was recruited as a member the 'New BT
Sales Force' created in the early 1980's, when BT broke with tradition
and recruited from outside the Company. After a few yew years Geof left
BT to set up his own successful communications company.

Bernie Nichols: Sad news that Bernie
passed on the weekend before last, (about 11 Dec.) after a long battle
with illness. I believe that he was an AEE up at Cater Road...I'm sure
that there are many of you, who would know a great deal more of the
detail of his BT career. I know him more as a founder member, and the
very first captain of Bristol Telephone Area RFC. His Funeral will be on
5th Jan at St Gerald Majella Church,Talbot Road, Knowle at 2:30pm.

Frank Nortcliffe: It is with great sadness that I wish to inform
past members from the Birmingham and West Midlands Areas of the death of
Frank Nortcliffe. Frank died peacefully at home in his sleep this
morning aged 94.
He was an Exchange Construction Manager for the bulk of his career and
made many friends amongst both his staff and colleagues and was highly
regarded by all.

John Herbert Clark: Announcing the death of John Herbert Clark
who joined the GPO in 1959. John died on the 12th of November age 82, he
retired and left BT in 1992.He was a fitter working out of Maltravers
Road on major switch board projects. Making this announcement on behalf
of Jack Rushby his brother in law who was a cable jointer on external

Joy Hawkins: My lovely Mum sadly passed away on the 1st November
following a terrible battle with vascular dementia.
Mum worked for Post Office telephones / BT for many years and was an HEO
in what was then called personnel. She was based in Mercury House Bond
St Bristol for a long time, and finished her career whilst working from
Castlemead, Bristol. She retired early in 1989. I followed her into the
company in 1980. It would be brilliant to hear from anyone who remembers

Nigel Jones: Anyone remember Nigel? He was in Motor Transport
Office, Market Gate until building closed.
Today I heard that Nigel died of a heart-attack November 9th 2021.
Apparently an avid Liverpool FC supporter.

Iain Mewse: It is my sad duty to inform you
of the death of former BT employee Iain Mewse after a long battle with
cancer. Iain was 71 and joined the company in 1971, retiring in 2012 and
remaining with the CWU as a retired member.
His funeral will be held at St Johns Church, Clayton, Monday 20th
September at 12.30pm. Followed by cremation at Scholemoor Crematorium.

Norman Shadbolt: Sad News.
For those of you who remember Norman, Iím sorry to say that he died on
27th August. He died after a short infection at the nursing home where
he lived. He had been suffering from dementia for some time and no
longer recognised his sister-in-law who visited him regularly. He was
He worked in Sales for many years in Oxford Street and Shaftesbury
Avenue and previously at Clifford Street.
Many people will know him from the staff bars that he played a major
part in running (and drinking in), the darts teams that he ran, and the
fishing trips he organised. Iím sure many of you will have fond memories

Section C members of the BTPS
will be pleased to hear that the court has ruled that RPI must
continue to be used. BT is "disappointed" and after reviewing
the judgement will consider whether to appeal. BT has confirmed
it will continue to use CPI for Sections A and B.
